Om museet
The museum occupies the private mansion at 5 avenue Marceau, where Yves Saint Laurent ran his haute couture house from 1974 to 2002. More than fifteen years after the house closed, the museum opened on October 3, 2017. It belongs to the Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent, which holds the designer’s archives and creations.
Over about 450 m², thematic exhibitions showed the richness of this collection and the creative process behind a haute couture collection. Set designer Nathalie Crinière and decorator Jacques Grange redesigned the rooms to recapture the atmosphere of the former couture house. The museum also aimed to show how haute couture accompanied a way of life of the 20th century that has since disappeared.
After seven years of opening and nearly one million visitors, the museum temporarily closed for works on May 5, 2025. Selldorf Architects (New York) and Studio La Boétie are preserving the building’s architectural qualities, doubling the area open to the public and creating a documentation and research centre. Reopening is announced for autumn 2027.
