Om museet
The Engelbrecht sculpture park was created by the German artist Erich Engelbrecht (1928–2011), who acquired the Château des Fougis estate in Thionne in 2001. He then installed his works in the gardens and on former hunting and farm grounds, between 2002 and 2011.
The Château des Fougis, rebuilt at the end of the 16th century and remodelled around 1900, is traditionally linked to the Bourbon hunting grounds. The park brings together some thirty monumental sculptures cut from large steel plates, often based on the artist’s drawings. The largest, “Le Forgeron I”, is about ten metres high.
A second exhibition, in the main wing of the château, presents older works: tapestries, oil paintings and prints.
For several years, the artist’s widow and beneficiaries have no longer been able to stay on site or receive the public. The indoor and outdoor exhibitions are therefore closed until further notice, and access to the interior was only possible by invitation or by appointment with the beneficiary.
