Om museet
Guinness has been brewed at St James’s Gate in Dublin since Arthur Guinness took over the site in 1759 on a lease of 9,000 years. In 1966 the brewery opened a small Brewery Museum in its old Chemists’ Laboratory on Watling Street to show historic objects from brewery life, and it welcomed about 10,000 visitors in its lifetime. The Guinness Storehouse continued this tradition and, according to the brewery, has welcomed more than 20 million visitors from around the world.
Today the Storehouse is a self-guided exhibition over seven floors. The visit explains how Guinness is made, shows the story of the company and its founder, and presents a large collection of advertising from the famous toucans to television commercials. Objects from the Guinness Archive, including many bottles, cans and labels, are on display. On the ground floor a display uses real barley.
The tour ends in the Gravity Bar at the top of the building, which offers a 360-degree view of Dublin and where each ticket includes a drink. Visitors can add experiences, such as learning to pour a pint in the Guinness Academy on the fourth floor, a selfie printed on the head of the pint (the STOUTie), a tasting session called the Connoisseur Experience and a tour of the working brewery. There are bars and restaurants inside, and combined tickets are sold with the nearby Roe & Co Distillery and the Guinness Open Gate Brewery.
