Om museet
The Knights of Glin Experience is a small visitor centre in the centre of Glin, on the south bank of the Shannon Estuary in West Limerick. It tells the story of the Fitzgerald family, who held the hereditary title of Knight of Glin for about 800 years, down to Desmond Fitzgerald, the last holder of the title, who died in 2011 at the age of 74.
The story is told through video and interactive audio. It follows some of the more colourful knights in the family line and examines their relationship with the people of Glin. The experience also covers local landmarks and explains how the village came to look the way it does today. It is a place to learn about the family before or after seeing the village; Glin Castle, the family’s former home, is a separate property that is not normally open to the public.
The centre is run by local volunteers and is open daily from April to October. Entry is free.
