Om museet
Kakalaskáli at Kringlumýri in Skagafjörður is a history and art exhibition on the conflicts of the Sturlung Age in the 13th century, with a focus on Þórður kakali. The couple Sigurður Hansen and María Guðmundsdóttir have worked on the project since 2008, with help from family and friends, and Esther Ágústsdóttir is project manager.
The art exhibition comprises 30 works by 14 artists from ten countries who created the works on site. The sculptor Jón Adólf Steinólfsson was the artistic director. The audio guide is available in Icelandic, English, Norwegian, German and Turkish. The longer text was written by Sigurður Hansen and the shorter one by Anna Dóra Antonsdóttir.
Outdoors, the Battle of Haugsnes is staged with the Grjótherinn (Stone Army): 1,320 stones, about 600 tonnes in total, each representing a warrior on the morning of the battle on 19 April 1246. 111 people fell in the battle, and those who fell in the battle and in the following days are marked with crosses. The installation is Sigurður Hansen's hypothesis and is free of charge. Kakalaskáli also houses María's studio and antiques shop, and a hall that is rented out.
