Om museet
It began with the private collection of Roger Feller, who in March 1994 found parts of B-17 bombers while building a house in Wolwelange. His first exhibition was so well received that he proposed a museum dedicated to the 385th Bomb Group of the U.S. Army Air Forces. The occasion was a memorial to 18 airmen who died on July 12, 1944, when two B-17s collided over Perlé; only two crew members survived by parachute.
For the unveiling of the memorial on June 21, 1998, which was also attended by veterans of the 385th Bomb Group, the municipality of Rambrouch made three rooms in Perlé’s former school available, where a small exhibition was set up. In 1944 this building had served as a place where the dead were brought for identification. The collection grew through donations from veterans and local residents and was shown permanently. An association (asbl) was formed, whose members volunteer to look after the exhibition. At the end of 2000, work began to convert the building into larger exhibition rooms.
Today the museum displays equipment and uniforms from World War II, with a focus on the U.S. Army Air Forces and the B-17 aircraft, along with manuals, documents, reports, photographs and film footage on the air war over Luxembourg and Europe. A further collection tells the local wartime story from the perspective of civilians and soldiers.
