Om museet
The museum goes back to the municipal Tromp Museum, proposed in 1912 by city archivist Johan Been and named after Admiral Maarten Harpertszoon Tromp, who was born in Brielle. Thanks to a bequest, it was fundamentally refurbished in 2011/2012 and inaugurated by Queen Beatrix on March 31, 2012. Since then the Eighty Years' War has been the focus.
It is housed in three historic buildings: the town hall of 1790 on the market square, the former city prison built in 1623, and the former weigh house. The prison section tells how the Sea Beggars captured Brielle on April 1, 1572, winning their first victory over the Spanish; the weigh house deals with the celebrations the town holds every year on April 1.
Other focal points are the Brielle naval heroes Tromp, Witte de With and Philips van Almonde, a portrait gallery with works by David Bailly and Justus van Egmond, among others, the Lords of Voorne as founders of the town, and finds from excavations from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages, including a fully preserved skeleton in its original coffin and a VR reconstruction of vanished monastery rooms. The organization also includes the outlying sites Stenen Baak in Oostvoorne and the Visserijmuseum in Zwartewaal.

Only partly wheelchair accessible because of its listed-monument status. In the weigh house/prison section a platform lift connects the levels (for manual wheelchairs only); the attic is not accessible by wheelchair, and the presentation there is shown as a video on the ground floor. The town hall section with the Admirals' Hall and Council Chamber can be reached by a standard lift, which is not suitable for electric wheelchairs or scooters. Access for wheelchair users via the wide door next to the main entrance.

Children's workshops and children's birthday parties are possible; the museum shop offers a Miffy (Nijntje) dress-up sheet and a "Geuzenpaspoort" (Sea Beggar passport); an interactive game on life at sea and a sea battle game appeal to younger visitors. Family ticket for 2 adults and 4 children.

According to the museum, plenty of free parking in the surrounding area; coaches park on the grounds at Thoelaverweg.
By car toward Rotterdam, Europoort, Brielle and on to Brielle centrum; the museum is at Markt 1 in the historic town center.
