Om museet
The fire brigade museum belongs to the Burgenland State Fire Brigade Association and is located at its headquarters on Leithabergstraße in Eisenstadt. It was opened on 13 June 1979 with a ceremony attended by the state leadership of the time. Since September 2019, a dedicated support association, formed by history-minded firefighters on a voluntary basis, has helped preserve the collection.
The exhibition tells the story of volunteer firefighting in Burgenland and in the former Western Hungary from the second half of the 18th century. More than 450 objects have been assembled: certificates, manuscripts, flags, uniforms, helmets, medals and awards, photographs, and heavy equipment such as steam and hand-operated pressure pumps from 1753 to 1901 and fire engines from 1930 onwards.
The museum sees itself as a place of remembrance for the pioneers of firefighting in Burgenland and at the same time shows the fire brigades' services to the public up to the present day. Visits and tours are led by volunteer guides from the ranks of the fire brigade.
