Om museet
Tableware was made in Wilhelmsburg an der Traisen for over 200 years. Stoneware production is thought to have begun in 1795; parts of the Winckhlmühle, where it all began, even date back to the 16th century. In 1883, Heinrich Lichtenstern took over the mill, after which the factory's great success story began. In 1997, tableware production was shut down and relocated to the neighbouring Czech Republic.
In 2004, the Wilhelmsburg master locksmith Manfred Schönleitner acquired the by then dilapidated Winckhlmühle and converted it into a museum; the Geschirr-Museum was officially opened in September 2007. It is run by the Verein Wilhelmsburger Geschirr-Museum, and the site is now also called “Daisyworld”.
The permanent exhibition, covering more than 700 square metres, shows the tableware shapes of the Lilien-Porzellan brand, produced from the end of the 1950s; two rooms are devoted to the pastel-coloured classic “Daisy”. In addition there is Wilhelmsburg stoneware from the 18th to the 20th century, the model workshop of former ÖSPAG designer Gernot Mühlbacher, an original 1950s kitchen and a small museum cinema.
In further factory rooms, the stoneware visible storage was opened in 2015. The grounds also include a ceramics studio, the former works kitchen as an event venue and a revitalised hydroelectric power plant.
