Om museet
Berndorf grew into an important industrial site under the influence of the Krupp industrial family after the metalware factory was founded in 1843. The city museum tells the story of the life and work of Hermann and Arthur Krupp, of work in the factory, and of the numerous social institutions, including the famous Berndorf schools with their style classes (Stilklassen).
The museum is housed in a former sausage factory on Bahnhofstraße, which the city of Berndorf rented for cultural activities. The focus is a permanent exhibition on the Krupp family and on the development of Berndorf from farming village to industrial town.
The tour is complemented by collections of cutlery and tableware, such as the factory produced, by exhibits on working-class culture and by early historical finds from the settlement of the town. Every year there are also changing special exhibitions on regional and cultural-historical themes. The museum is a member of the museum network “abenteuer INDUSTRIE” in the Industrieviertel of Lower Austria.
