Om museet

The Nutli Hüschi is an old Walser house from the 16th century and one of the oldest houses in Klosters; “Hüschi” means “little house” in the Prättigau dialect. Its builder was Christen Nutli, and it was inhabited until 1910. Fritz Schoellhorn from Winterthur, one of the first holiday guests in Klosters, bought the dilapidated house in 1918 and had it restored. He gathered the collection of old everyday objects and furniture in Klosters and the surrounding area.

Since 1925 the house has been home to the Klosters museum. In 1954 Schoellhorn’s son Georg donated the building, along with its entire inventory, to the municipality of Klosters. A stable was added in 1997, and since 2017 the Bachhüschi has enriched the offering.

The museum presents a lively picture of the history, customs and crafts of times past and lets visitors understand the traditional way of life and building style of the Walser. It is one of the Museen Klosters, which also include the Rohrmühle and the Schröder Schmitte. In the Bachhüschi, wood-fired bread is baked on Fridays from July to October.
