Om museet
The MoneyMuseum goes back to the Zurich publisher Jürg Conzett, who from 1995 built up a private coin collection focused on the leading currencies from antiquity to the present. In 1999 the museum went online as one of the first online museums on the history of money and currency; in the same year Conzett founded the Sunflower Foundation, which became the museum's sponsor. From 2000 to 2002 it was temporarily a guest at the New Media Center of the Swiss National Museum Zurich.
In 2002 the foundation acquired its own premises at Hadlaubstrasse 106, which opened to the public on 4 February 2003: on the ground floor, works from the book collection were on show, and in the hall and the basement, important coins from the history of Western money. Later additions included video stations and a digital audio guide.
Today the MoneyMuseum sees itself as a space for dialogue about money rather than a classic museum. It looks at money from the perspectives of history, literature, philosophy, psychology and economics and shows in small exhibitions, among other things, Roman coins, traditional means of payment and a bibliophile library. There are also guided tours, forums, a Money Quiz and extensive online offerings.
