Om museet
The Pyromin Museum describes itself as the first museum in Europe devoted to pyrotechnics, fireworks and explosives. It occupies a former fortification of over 7,000 square meters in the mountains above Corbeyrier and shows the use of pyrotechnics from the Middle Ages to the 21st century.
Fort de Champillon (Werk A 365) was built from 1942 as an artillery works in connection with the Swiss Reduit and completed in 1944; two 105 mm guns in casemates, along with ammunition stores and quarters, lie inside the rock. The facility was decommissioned in 1994 and sold to private owners in 2005. In 2010 plans for an explosives museum in the complex became known; part of the fort is still used today as a storage site by a pyrotechnics company.
Visits were possible only with a guided tour. According to Schweiz Tourismus and a regional event portal, the museum is currently temporarily closed; no reopening date is known.
