Om museet
The Musée Visionnaire was founded in Zurich in 2013 as a nonprofit organization. By its own account, it searches archives, studios and psychiatric institutions for works by artists who are little known or fall through the cracks of established art categories. The house understands visionary art as art that breaks with conventions, overcomes rules and questions norms.
The rooms at Predigerplatz in Zurich's Niederdorf district were designed in 1968 by the Zurich architects Trix and Robert Haussmann; the house includes a courtyard garden. The museum shows changing exhibitions and complements them with guided tours, workshops and programs for schools, children and families, which it regards as a third exhibition space.
Since about 2018 the museum has been building its own collection, which now comprises 374 works and grows through purchases and donations. It is cataloged online and is also lent to other museums. Further focuses include street art walks, for example on Harald Naegeli and Ben Wilson.
