Om museet
The Talmuseum Ursern is housed in one of the finest patrician buildings in the Ursern Valley. Talammann (valley magistrate) Franz Dominik Nager had the spacious residential and business house built in 1786. On September 25, 1799, it served as the headquarters of Field Marshal Suvorov of Russia, which is why local people call it the “Suworowhaus.”
In 1985 the Korporation Ursern (Ursern Corporation) bought the badly dilapidated building, had it carefully renovated and converted into a museum. To this day the corporation runs the house, supported by the Stiftung Talmuseum (Talmuseum foundation); a small team takes care of exhibitions, events and tours.
The core is the domestic culture around 1780/1800, with a late-Baroque ceremonial parlor whose paneling, doors and furniture are coordinated with one another. The permanent exhibition also covers valley and cultural history, tourism, the military, alpine farming and pack-animal transport, and displays a natural history cabinet. One room is dedicated to Olympic champion Bernhard Russi from Ursern. Temporary exhibitions are shown on the ground floor.
