Om museet
La Imprenta Sur was founded in Málaga in 1925 around the poets Emilio Prados and Manuel Altolaguirre. A year later it was given the name Sur. Its workshop printed the magazine Litoral and published the first books of many poets of the Generation of '27.
After being seized by the Falange in 1937, it was renamed Dardo. Later, competition from mechanised printing brought it close to disappearing.
In 2001 the Generation of '27 Centre of the Diputación de Málaga (provincial council) acquired its machinery and furniture, which were thus saved from scrapping. Since 2005 the workshop has been housed in the María Victoria Atencia Cultural Centre on Calle Ollerías, where it works as a living print shop and poetry books are still published by traditional craft methods.
