Om museet
The Museo Aeronáutico de Lanzarote occupies the first passenger terminal of the island's airport, which operated from 1946 to 1970. It is run by Aena and opened in December 2006. The first commercial flight arrived on 12 June 1946 on a Junkers 52 with two passengers.
The museum has eleven themed rooms, with audiovisual displays, photographs, models of aircraft from different eras, videos, old telegraphs and other objects. It explains the beginnings of aeronautics in Lanzarote, the first flights, the old terminal, transport and communications. In the lobby there is a mural by the Belgian painter Jean Pierre Hock, and in one of the rooms a reproduction of the painting “Lanzarote”, which César Manrique painted in 1953. The visit includes the old control tower and the check-in area.
In addition to free and guided visits, the museum offers activities for educational centres and the programmes “Visitas a la carta” (visits on request) and “Vuela con nosotros” (Fly with Us), the latter with the Military Aerodrome.
