Om museet
The Museo de Historia de Benetússer brings together the pieces that came to light in archaeological excavations carried out in the town, dating from the 1st to the 17th century. According to the town council, it is the first museum to display Roman and Islamic pottery remains, and its aim is to specialise in the oldest periods of pottery-making.
It is located on the ground floor of the Molí, a former rice mill, and is spread over three rooms. The most outstanding pieces are the Roman remains found in Benetússer: fragments of a vessel, a sauce bowl and a frying pan, and an oil lamp imported from Tunisia in the early Imperial period. The second room recreates the look of an excavation, with elements from the Islamic and Christian periods. The third shows local pottery from the Caliphal period and its later evolution.
The permanent exhibition “Arrels de fang” offers a route through the main archaeological discoveries in the municipality, with a selection of the most representative materials recovered in 1982 and in recent excavations. It shows mainly pottery related to everyday life.
