Om museet
For centuries, many people in Coll de Nargó specialised in transporting timber downriver. These were the raiers, who practised this trade until the first third of the 20th century, when the construction of reservoirs and the expansion of road transport made it impracticable and unnecessary. Together with Pont de Claverol, Coll de Nargó was the most important centre of raiers in Catalonia.
In 1998 the museum was installed in the former chapel of the Mare de Déu del Roser, patron saint of the raiers. The exhibition occupies the interior of the chapel and the choir. On the walls there are six explanatory panels on the journey of a raft, from the forest to the end of the trip, with educational drawings by Oriol Garcia Quera and Francesc Riart.
Alongside the panels are the tools of the cutters who felled the trees, a display case with personal objects of the raiers and fishing gear, a ganxa (the iron-tipped pole used to move the logs in the water), a cupboard with the raier's clothing and photographs of their work. In the centre of the room there is a small-scale replica of a raft. Each summer the Associació de Raiers de Nargó organises the descent of the raiers along a stretch of the river Segre.
