Om museet
Fife Folk Museum stands beside the Ceres Burn near the village green in Ceres, Fife. It grew out of the old Weigh House, which was part of the village tollbooth where the local baron held court; the jougs, a punishment collar, still hang outside, and a small dungeon lies below. The museum later acquired the weaver's cottage next door and the adjoining Woodward Cottage, and further building work extended it towards the burn and added a tearoom and a shop.
The museum was founded in the late 1960s and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018. It is a registered Scottish charity, run entirely by volunteers from the local community and beyond.
The displays explore the social, domestic and working lives of the people of Fife, housed in listed buildings in the historic village. The museum also runs school visits, talks with handling collections and themed events.
