Om museet
Pogue's Entry is a small historic cottage in the centre of Antrim town. It was the childhood home of Alexander Irvine, who became a missionary in the Bowery district of New York and later pastor of the Church of the Ascension on Fifth Avenue.
Irvine described his boyhood in the cottage and Irish country life after the famine in his book My Lady of the Chimney Corner. The cottage has been kept in its original state as a memorial to him.
It stands in a memorial park at the junction of Castle Way and Church Street. The park includes a cottage fruit and vegetable garden and lawn borders planted with Irish plants and shrubs, redeveloped by volunteers of the Irish Garden Plant Society. The cottage is managed by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, which also offers a virtual tour on its visitor website.
