Om museet

The museum of safes was founded in June 1995 and now holds only safes from manufacturers in the territory of the Czech Republic. The collection includes several safes that have already been refurbished to their original form, as well as many safes in their original condition. On display are a collection of decorative lock covers and rosettes, a collection of manufacturers’ name plates, toy safes for children, and a unique collection of drawers from bank safe deposit boxes.

The exhibition is complemented by safes that have been broken into, historical electrical devices, goldsmiths’ machines, security cases, and safes from fire-resistance and burglar-resistance tests. Safes usually arrive at the museum damaged and incomplete, so they require demanding restoration, mainly of the lock mechanism and the original decorative fluting (fládrování). The owner of the museum wants to show a cross-section of the production of Czech safes in past years.
