Om museet

The museum was founded in 1898 and is housed in the historic buildings of the former town fortifications in Uherský Brod. Today it is a contributory organisation of the Ministry of Culture and cares for collections of archaeology, history, ethnography, regional art, numismatics, works with motifs relating to Comenius, old prints and artistic bookbinding. The museum also has a specialist library, an archive and audiovisual recordings.

The focus is on the legacy of Jan Amos Comenius. The museum has prepared the permanent exhibition On the Stage of the World (Na jevišti světa), publishes the international journal Studia Comeniana et historica, and organises international Comenius colloquia. It cooperates with the Comenius Museum in Naarden in the Netherlands, and in 2021 it opened the exhibition Mundus Comenii there.

Other exhibitions present the Antiques of the Uherský Brod Region, on view since 2002, the history of the town, and the modern educational space Informatorium, opened in 2017. Since 1986 the farmhouse at no. 57 in Vlčnov has been open to the public, showing folk architecture and crafts. The complex also includes a baroque columned hall, an atrium and a Japanese garden. The museum also holds short-term exhibitions, cultural events and programmes for schools.
