Om museet
The Museum of the Moravian Brethren in Suchdol nad Odrou came about at the initiative of foreign friends who began visiting the village after 1990 and wanted to see something concrete as well as its interesting history. The first exhibition was created in 1992 in the Evangelical church. Another, devoted to David Nitschmann, the first bishop of the renewed Unity of the Brethren, has been in the municipal museum since 1996. In 1991 the municipality acquired and renovated the small farmstead no. 21, and its individual parts were gradually opened in 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2008.
The museum is a well-preserved, typical small farmstead of the Moravian Kravařsko region, with an enclosed courtyard, a residential building and farm buildings. Visitors learn how people lived and worked here a hundred years ago. On the ground floor of the residential part is an exhibition on the events before the mass exile during the Counter-Reformation and on the spiritual awakening in Kravařsko in 1723 and 1724. The výminek section is devoted to the personalities David Nitschmann, Melchior Zeisberger and Johann Münster. In the courtyard is an exhibition on David Nitschmann the Syndic, and the cellar recalls the executions on the Kunvald estate.
In the former barn is the exhibition Do všech končin světa (Into All the Corners of the World), about the extensive mission work of the Moravians in Europe, America, Asia, Africa and the polar regions. The gallery above the entrance has an exhibition on David Zeisberger, apostle to the Native Americans. The site also includes the Park of the Moravian Brethren and the start of the Via Exulantis trail.
