Om museet

The Tesla Museum is a non-state, non-profit exhibition of the Historical Radio Club of Czechoslovakia. The club began building the collection in 1995 with the aim of saving endangered technical monuments of the Czechoslovak radio industry. The devices were initially stored in various places across the republic, the largest part in the building of the transmitting centre in Poděbrady. When the club had to leave those premises in 2002, it looked for a new place for the whole collection.

In May 2003 the club bought the former granary building in Třešť, near Jihlava, and spent almost ten years repairing it. The first publicly accessible exhibition, Tesla, the Heritage of the Czechoslovak Electrical Industry, opened in August 2012; it was created with the support of the local action group Třešťsko and EU funds. Further exhibitions were added later, for example the exhibition of heavy radio technology (2015). According to the museum, it is the largest collection of its kind in Europe.

The second granary, bought in 2014, serves as a depository and is not open to the public. Reconstruction of the buildings is still continuing.

Permanente udstillinger

• Tesla, dědictví Č. S. elektroprůmyslu – The basic exhibition of historic radio technology, focused on the Czechoslovak brand Tesla, opened in August 2012.
• Expozice těžké radiotechniky – Large and mobile transmitters, the broadcast control room of radio and television, the local radio exchange and measuring instruments; some of the equipment can be demonstrated in operation.
• Interaktivní výstava funkčních televizorů Tesla – Several restored and reactivated televisions and a video recorder represent important milestones in the development of television technology from 1953 to 1991.
