Třebíz is a small village in the Slaný area whose village green has been preserved, because in the 18th century the main road was routed away from the centre of the village. In 1969–1975, with the help of experts and local residents, the Cífek farmstead was rescued, and it became the basis of the museum. The museum opened to the public in 1975 as a branch of the Slaný Local History Museum.

The museum preserves the external appearance of the folk buildings and, in selected interiors, shows the housing and life of a village family. The tour includes the Cífek farmstead, founded at the end of the 16th century, with a black kitchen; the Šubrt farmstead from the early 19th century; a village general store; a shoemaker's workshop; and a retirement cottage. The farm buildings with agricultural tools document the work of the peasants, and the buildings show folk architecture with lepenice (clay-and-straw daub) and sandstone elements.

The museum also includes the birthplace of the writer and priest Václav Beneš Třebízský, who was born there in 1849 into a tailor's family. Memorabilia of the writer, including his works, are on display there. On the green stand the Baroque church of St Martin from 1754, a bell tower, the chapel of the Holy Trinity and a small pond with a watering place. The Cífek farmstead is also used for wedding ceremonies.

Free admission is also granted to holders of AMG and ICOM cards. In the summer season the museum offers a discount ticket package for visits to the museums in Slaný and Třebíz (1 June–31 October 2026); the full price list is available for download on the museum's website.

Wedding ceremonies can be held in the courtyard of the Cífek farmstead (up to 500 people) or inside, in the tavern room in the residential part of the farmstead; the fee for renting the farmstead for a ceremony is CZK 4,500.
