Exhibition created by two students of the Gymnasium Wandlitz (high school) with detailed hand-drawn insect illustrations and objects on the diversity of small creatures. No end date has been announced.
The museum's roots go back to 1955, when Wandlitz dairy owner and local historian Walter Blankenburg set up a small local history room with farm tools and household items. The collection grew considerably over the following decades, filled converted barns and a hall of its own, and from 1975 was known as the Museum der agraren Produktivkräfte (Museum of Agricultural Productive Forces).
After German reunification it became the Agrarmuseum Wandlitz in 1990 and developed into the largest agricultural history collection in Brandenburg. From 2011 to 2013 the municipality of Wandlitz had a new building constructed in the old village center that brings the museum together with the visitor center of the Barnim Nature Park. The ensemble of the new “Stall” (stable) and “Scheune” (barn) buildings and the renovated former village school echoes the shape of a three-sided farmstead typical of the region; the building, designed to be climate-neutral, won the Brandenburgischer Baukulturpreis (Brandenburg architecture award) in 2013.
In September 2013 the Barnim Panorama opened with the permanent exhibition “Geformte und Genutzte Landschaft” (Shaped and Used Landscape) on around 1,650 square meters. It covers everything from the shaping of the Barnim during the Ice Age to settlement and rural daily life, modern farm machinery and questions of food and climate. The collection comprises around 7,300 objects, from archaeological finds to tractors and combine harvesters. The complex also includes a certified tourist information office, a display garden and a discovery trail with a tree house.
