Bauernhausmuseum Lindberg
Small open-air museum in the middle of Lindberg: a Waldler farmhouse with a smoke kitchen (Rußkuchl), a wooden chapel from 1885 and an inn in the retirement house (Austragshaus).
Om museet
The Bauernhausmuseum Lindberg preserves a farm ensemble in the village center that still stands on its original site. The farm was first mentioned in documents in the late 16th century. When around 1970 many old farmhouses in Lindberg had to make way for new buildings, and a buyer with plans for a new building was also lined up for the dilapidated Kuchlerhaus, Bundestag member Franz Handlos acquired the property in 1974 in order to preserve it as a museum.
The timber-built main house was restored with beams from a demolished building in Rinchnach, the neighboring retirement house (Austragshaus) was purchased, and in 1975 a dilapidated wooden chapel from 1885 from Hermannsried near Bischofsmais was moved onto the grounds. The museum opened on June 28, 1975; an inn has been run in the Austragshaus ever since.
After Franz Handlos died in 2013, the listed ensemble was sold; it remained in private ownership and has been run since 2014 by the Förderverein Bauernhausmuseum Lindberg. On the first floor, the smoke kitchen, parlor with loom and chambers show rural life in the Bavarian Forest. On the upper floor, since a redesign, the multimedia permanent exhibition "Neunzehn – Vom Leben am Böhmweg" tells of the settlement along the old trade route to Bohemia.
