Om museet
The Braunauer Heimatmuseum (Braunau local history museum) opened on July 18, 1959. The city of Forchheim, which took on sponsorship of the people expelled from the Braunau region in northeastern Bohemia, provided the Heimatkreis Braunau/Sudetenland with rooms where the collected heritage could be housed and preserved.
The archive of the Heimatkreis is also housed in the museum. It is located in central Forchheim, on the edge of the pedestrian zone. The collection consists mainly of municipal chronicles and local maps, books and writings, pictures and engravings, minerals and a herbarium of native plants, traditional costumes and household items, as well as documentation on the expulsion.
