Anniversary exhibition marking 25 years of the Forum, on artistic collaboration from medieval workshops to today's collectives.
The ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius founded the Bucerius Kunst Forum and opened it in 2002 on Rathausmarkt in a former bank building. Without a collection of its own, the venue has since presented several temporary exhibitions a year, based on loans from international museums and covering art from antiquity to the present.
In 2019, the Forum moved into a new building behind a historic facade at Alter Wall 12, directly opposite City Hall. Since then, its four floors have housed a flexibly divisible exhibition hall, a dedicated events floor with an auditorium and atrium, and a glass-walled studio at canal level for educational programs.
The program ranges from solo shows on artists such as Gabriele Münter, Lee Miller, or Sean Scully to thematic exhibitions on image politics in antiquity, flowers in art, or women artists of Surrealism. It is accompanied by readings, concerts, and formats such as quiet evening walk-throughs.
The venue is run by a nonprofit company of the ZEIT-Stiftung; Kathrin Baumstark has directed the Forum for several years. In 2027, it will celebrate its 25th anniversary with an exhibition on artistic collaboration.
