Freilicht- und Heimatmuseum Haselünne
Open-air museum with historic half-timbered and farmhouses from the Emsland, showing the daily life and crafts of Haselünne's farmer-townsfolk (Ackerbürger).
Om museet
The first beginnings of a local history museum in Haselünne date back to 1930, when the then local history and tourism association "Hasegau" set up an exhibition in a room of the Stadtsparkasse; it ended just a few years later. After the Second World War, the local history association took up the idea again and in 1961 first opened a small museum in town, which soon became too cramped.
An open-air site was then created on the edge of town: in October 1964, Haus Tiding, a hall house from 1759 from Brögbern, was dedicated as the first relocated building. In the following decades, Haus Klus from Dalvers, the double tenant-farmer's house Meyer zu Starten from Ankum, a forge with original furnishings, a bakehouse from Menslage, a tithe barn of the Schwakenburg in Andrup, a half-timbered baking room used as a chapel, and, in 1997, Haus Büter were added.
The museum is run by volunteers from the Heimatverein Haselünne and the museum association and is managed by a full-time culture manager. The houses are grouped around a village square with a fountain and show the life of the farmer-townsfolk: living rooms, clog-maker's, shoemaker's, cooper's and blacksmith's workshops, carriages and farm implements, a ceramics collection, archaeological finds, a coin collection and a parlor on the history of the Sudeten Germans.
