In the Ebersteinsaal, H0-scale dioramas, tickets, timetables, and other items trace the development of the Bruchsal–Menzingen railway line from steam operation to the electric light rail.
The art floor juxtaposes prints by both artists and recalls the Neuenbürg “Jedermann” (Everyman) plays of 1950.
Om museet
Gochsheim was mentioned as a fortified town as early as 1278; on the site of a medieval castle, the Counts of Eberstein had a Renaissance-style palace complex built from 1520 onward, which by around 1580 consisted of a smaller Front Palace and a larger Rear Palace. When Count Casimir died in 1660 without a male heir, the estate passed through his daughter's marriage to a cadet branch of the House of Württemberg.
The complex was badly damaged in the Nine Years' War (War of the Palatine Succession) in 1689 and in the town fire of 1739. The Rear Palace was demolished in 1828/29; the surviving Front Palace passed into the ownership of the municipality and served as a school until 1905, after which it took on essentially its present form.
Today the town of Kraichtal runs its museum in the palace. Spread over two floors with interactive stations, it covers the history of Gochsheim, Kraichtal's nine districts, the Ebersteins, and the Kraichgau nobility. Focal points include archaeological finds, historic workshops of a cooper, a schnapps distiller, and a blacksmith, bricks from the former Bott brickworks, and a collection of more than 1,300 irons from around the world. An art floor shows works by Karl Hubbuch, whose foundation comprises around 100 works, as well as by Carl and Margarethe Krieger. The building also houses the Kraichgau library and the Rittersaal (Knights' Hall), where civil weddings take place. Two bakery museums in Gochsheim round out the offerings.
