Om museet
The Sixthof was built in 1583 and is among the oldest listed farmhouses in the Munich district. In 1895 Johann Liebhard, founder of the Aying brewery, bought the farm and land; since then the property has belonged to the brewing family and today is part of the ensemble of the Brauereigasthof Hotel Aying (brewery inn).
In 1978, for the 100th anniversary of the Aying private brewery, the house was completely renovated and furnished as a Heimathaus based on historical models. It is meant to be a testimony to rural culture and to show how people lived on a typical Upper Bavarian single-ridge farm 150 to 200 years ago.
On the first floor are the large Rauchkuchl (smoke kitchen), a pantry, the parlor and a bedchamber. The upper floor shows the servants' room, retirement quarters and the splendidly furnished "gute Kammer" (best room). Notable are products of Upper Bavarian cabinetmaking and Hafner pottery from Upper and Lower Bavaria.
