Heimatmuseum Dorfen

Om museet

The Dorfen local history museum opened in 2004 for the 50th anniversary of the town's elevation to city status. At first only an initial section was created in the attic of the building at Herzoggraben 10, which formerly served as the Royal Bavarian district court prison.

Today the exhibition extends over around 200 square meters and three floors. It traces the development of the town and its surroundings from prehistory and early history to the present.

The ground floor deals with finds from the Mesolithic period around the Höning and with the pilgrimage to the miraculous image of Maria Dorfen, which reached its peak in the 18th century. On the upper floor follow a memorial room of the local soldiers' and veterans' association with old flags, two rooms built by a farmer himself shortly after 1900, and rooms on church history. In addition there are special exhibitions on town history, art and cultural history.
