Om museet
The Heimatverein Weisendorf (local history association) was founded in 1979. In 1988, for the village's 700th anniversary, the association laid the foundation of the collection. Since 2010 the museum has been housed in a new building on Reuther Weg, which also houses the association's clubhouse; setup and operation lie entirely in the hands of the association.
The museum shows farming and craft life in the Seebachgrund valley: farm implements and agricultural machinery such as hay wagons, potato harvesters, a mower and a threshing machine, household items, costumes, and relics of noble and church life. There are also vintage cars, tractors and fire engines. Visitors are expressly invited to handle the objects and examine them more closely, and association members lead tours through the rooms.
Since 2014 the museum has also included an extensive hunting exhibition with taxidermy of local furred and feathered game. Throughout the year the association brings the house to life with events such as the Museumskirchweih (museum church fair) on the first Sunday in May, the Johannisfeuer (Midsummer bonfire) in June, a hobby and artists' market, and the Museumsadvent (museum Advent event). Small themed displays on everyday objects such as washboards, mousetraps or irons are added from time to time.
