Jura-Bauernhof-Museum
Small open-air museum in a Jura-house farm over 400 years old in Hofstetten, showing rural life around 1910–1930.
Om museet
The Jura Farm Museum is located in the so-called Kipferlerhof in Hofstetten, a district of Hitzhofen in the Eichstätt district. The farm is first mentioned in 1551 in the rent registers of the Hochstift Eichstätt and from 1786 belonged for almost two centuries to the Schermer/Albrecht family, from which the house name also derives. With the death of the last, childless family member in 1984, this line ended.
The then district heritage officer Wunibald Iser recognized the value of the run-down property. The district bought and restored the farm, set up a museum, and handed it over to a specially founded friends' association, which still runs it today; the museum was founded in 1986.
The main building is a two-story combined house and stable in the typical style of the Altmühl Jura house, with limestone rubble walls, a low-pitched roof, and a covering of limestone slabs (Legschiefer). Farm family, farmhands, and livestock lived under one roof. The furnishings mostly come from the former residents and show above all farm life between 1910 and 1930.
The farm includes a barn with agricultural tools, a shed with tractors and harvesting machines, a bake oven, a well, a henhouse, and an herb and fruit garden. Over the year, action days such as bread baking, the threshers' festival, and the museum festival take place.
