Om museet

In the 19th century, Lenzkirch in the High Black Forest was an important center of clockmaking. The factory "Schöpperle und Hauser", founded in 1849, was converted in 1851 into the "Aktiengesellschaft für Uhrenfabrikation Lenzkirch" (AGUL) and grew quickly. At its peak it employed up to 650 people and made clocks in several hundred designs; over 80 years, more than 2.6 million clock movements were produced in total. Awards at world exhibitions attest to its standing. The founders were also committed to the region and society, for example in building the Höllental railway and a hospital.

The AGUL ceased to exist in 1927 due to economic hardship, and the factory finally closed in 1932. The Verein der Lenzkircher Uhrenfreunde (association of Lenzkirch clock enthusiasts) keeps the memory alive: it has assembled a collection and displays it on the upper floor of the Kurhaus.

With the collection of Paula and Wolfgang Dilger, integrated in 2013, the exhibition comprises around 250 exhibits, presented in display cases together with early pictures, original documents and catalogs. A particular highlight is the "Flötenuhr No. 1" by Jakob Ganter, which plays eight melodies on 42 wooden flutes.
