Om museet
The Maschenmuseum in Albstadt-Tailfingen is devoted to the knitting industry, which has shaped the Albstadt area for centuries. It opened in 1996 and is housed in a former Tailfingen textile machinery factory, which offers around 1,200 square meters of exhibition space.
The presentation spans from subsistence farming and early industrial production, through industrialization and women's home-based work, to modern manufacturing. It shows equipment for processing flax and making stockings, a hand-operated knitting frame, circular knitting machines and knitting machines, as well as textiles, mainly knitwear (Trikotwaren), from 1880 to the present.
Machines and equipment from almost all production areas, such as winding, finishing and cutting, illustrate the path from yarn to finished garment. Staged displays, videos, 3-D photo documentation and demonstrations of machine and hand work complement the collection. The museum is one of Albstadt's municipal museums.
