Museum für Landtechnik und Landarbeit
Museum farm in Börry with working agricultural machinery and rural household equipment in half-timbered buildings around a Romanesque church.
Om museet
The museum was initiated by 33 enthusiasts who founded an association in Börry in January 1980 to collect, restore, and preserve old agricultural equipment from the Weser Uplands. In 1985 the municipality of Emmerthal acquired a historic farmstead ensemble in Niederbörry, which was developed into the museum grounds; the Museum für Landtechnik und Landarbeit (Museum of Agricultural Technology and Farm Work) officially opened in 1990.
The concept focuses on the transition from the labor-intensive farm to the mechanized operation. Five buildings are grouped on nearly 8,000 square meters: the farmhouse of the former owners, the Grave family; a half-timbered hall house from 1818; the Grave barn from 1851 with almost 800 square meters of exhibition space; a bakehouse; the former parsonage; and the 13th-century Romanesque church of Niederbörry.
On display are plows, harrows, rollers, seed drills, mowers, and threshing machines as well as tractors, organized by area of work such as tillage and grain farming; the objects come from farms in the region and are in working order. The farmhouse covers the kitchen, laundry, dairy processing, and home slaughtering. The museum is run by its friends' association; the church is still used for services, weddings, and concerts.
