Om museet
The museum's foundation goes back to local researcher Wilhelm Maas, who from 1954 collected objects and archival material for a future local history museum on behalf of the Heimat- und Verkehrsverein Vluyn (local heritage and tourism association). From 1976 the collection was on permanent display in the "Heimatstube" (local history room) of the municipal cultural hall; in 1978 the display was expanded and given the name Heimatmuseum (local history museum).
In 1985 the Museumsverein Neukirchen-Vluyn (museum association) was founded, which, together with the local heritage associations of both districts and the city, supports the house. After the conversion and expansion of the cultural hall in 1987, the museum was newly set up with professional advice and funding from the Rhineland Museum Office (Rheinisches Museumsamt) and reopened in December 1989.
For the 40th anniversary in 2016, a fundamental redesign began with support from the LVR (Rhineland Regional Council), and it was completed in July 2018. Since then, interactive offerings and a multimedia table have explored the city's history, including topics such as textile production, school, mill technology, social engagement and National Socialism locally.
