Særudstilling
Announced presentation on the painter Ottilie W. Roederstein; the museum has not yet published dates and details.
The museum building on Burgstraße was built in 1717 as a residence for Johann Jakob Lipp, who had acquired the neighboring Electoral Mainz estate; it lies right next to the historic Kellerei district. Over time it repeatedly housed public institutions, until from 1991 it was converted and extended with a modern new building. In 1993 the Stadtmuseum of the district town of Hofheim am Taunus opened here.
The permanent exhibition comprises several sections. The archaeology section spans from the Paleolithic through the Neolithic settlement of the Kapellenberg to the Romans, who first built an earthwork camp in Hofheim and then a stone fort with a camp village; gravestones, wall paintings and everyday finds stem from more than 150 years of research. The town history section uses audio stations, dioramas and films to lead from the Middle Ages to the present, and a separate section is devoted to the mills and the leather industry in the Lorsbach valley.
One art focus is on the painter Ottilie W. Roederstein and the circle around Hanna Bekker vom Rath, whose Blaues Haus (Blue House) in Hofheim served as a retreat and meeting place for artists such as Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Alexej von Jawlensky, Ernst Wilhelm Nay and Ludwig Meidner. In addition, there are several special exhibitions each year; in 2025 the museum received an extensive donation of abstract art, the Ursula Teschner collection.
