Om museet
The town history museum opened in September 2004. Its setting is especially appealing: a listed former parsonage complex made up of the baroque parsonage (1753/54), the Pfarrscheuer barn (1751/52), the Drittelscheuer barn (1457/58), a large parsonage garden with a washhouse and bakehouse from 1811, and a garden arbor.
In the parsonage, the town history collection presents life since the Middle Ages in the three very different districts of Wendlingen, Bodelshofen with its manor estate, and Unterboihingen. A common thread running through the exhibition is the importance of transport routes, from the Roman road and the pilgrim route through rafting and the railway to the motorway. The collection also includes textile and furniture industry exhibits from the 19th and 20th centuries.
The renovated Drittelscheuer presents archaeological finds from the Stone Age through to the Romans and Alemanni. In the former Pfarrscheuer, the Schmiedescheuer displays tools and work implements, including a mobile band saw, and beneath it lies a vaulted cellar with preserved fruit and vegetables. The museum garden has a beehouse, a vegetable garden and a bakehouse that can be rented. The municipal museum is run by the Museumsverein Wendlingen-Unterboihingen.
