The Töpfermuseum Urberach is located behind the old fire station (Spritzenhaus) on Bachgasse. The building was erected in 1906 as a "Faselstall" (stud barn) for the municipality’s breeding animals. After that use ended, it partly served as a municipal works yard until 1982, and in the 1970s it was briefly used by a youth group.

As early as the early 1970s, the Urberach municipal council decided to set up a pottery museum. A call for donations brought together so many pieces that three larger exhibitions were held between 1973 and 1975. In 1979 the local heritage and history association (Heimat- und Geschichtsverein) was founded and supported the planning. After the final decision in April 1983, the house was converted in just four months and opened on September 1, 1984; at that time it was the only specialist pottery museum in Hesse.

The lower exhibition room covers clay extraction, decoration and trade, along with earthenware pieces from other regions and finds from early historic urn burials at the Bulau and the Häsengebirge. The upper exhibition room displays entire ensembles of former pottery workshops and, in mobile display cases, special topics of local history. The ground floor also has a workroom for pottery courses. Since 1997, the upper room has also served as the city’s wedding room.
