Renaissance summer residence of the patrician Tucher family, with period interiors, art treasures, a Renaissance garden, and the reconstructed Hirsvogelsaal.
Small display-case exhibition in the mansion foyer with Nuremberg Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) crafts from the Pese collection, on view until the Museum Industriekultur reopens (expected spring 2027).
Om museet
Between 1533 and 1544, Lorenz Tucher and his wife Katharina had an older garden property on the Treibberg expanded into a stately summer residence. The sandstone building was not a permanent home but served for social gatherings during the warm months. While the street front remains plain in keeping with Nuremberg's building regulations, the courtyard displays rich Renaissance decoration; a striking feature is the stair tower, reminiscent of French models.
For centuries the Tuchers were among the leading patrician families of the Imperial City, engaged in international long-distance trade, and held seats on the city council; in the 19th century the name also became known through the brewery. During World War II the mansion was largely gutted by fire, but its movable furnishings were saved. Since its reconstruction from 1967 to 1969, the building has been used as a museum. Almost all exhibits – furniture, tapestries, portraits, glass, faience, and goldsmith's work such as the ewer and basin by Wenzel Jamnitzer – are on loan from the Tucher'sche Kulturstiftung.
Since 2000 the reconstructed Hirsvogelsaal has stood in the mansion's garden. The merchant Lienhard Hirsvogel had this banquet hall built nearby in 1534; with Peter Flötner's carved wall paneling and the ceiling painting by Dürer's pupil Georg Pencz, it is considered an outstanding work of the German Early Renaissance. The building was lost in the war, but most of its furnishings survived, were displayed for a time in the Fembo-Haus, and were painstakingly restored for the new building. Today the hall and the Renaissance garden are also used for concerts and celebrations.
