Om museet

A mill in Worin is already documented in writing at the end of the 14th century; later tax and village registers repeatedly mention a water mill with a miller over the centuries. A beam inscription from 1899 testifies to a renewal of the wooden mill structure. In 1905 a turbine replaced the water wheel, and from 1940 the mill ran on electricity. From 1914 it belonged to the miller family Handke; until 1970 it was in full operation, and at the end only coarse meal was still being ground. In 1985 the facility passed to the municipality.

In November 1992, citizens of Worin founded the association Wassermühle Worin to save the mill as a technical monument and set up a museum. With state funds, first the roof and roof truss and later the facade, windows and doors were restored; from 1995 two floors of the mill could be visited. Since then, association members have looked after the museum and the mill ensemble, the center of village life, on a volunteer basis.

The three-story mill house shows transmission, grinding and coarse-meal runs, elevators and screw conveyors working together in wood and iron, along with a journeyman's chamber, the miller's kitchen and a living room with furniture of the last miller family. In the front building, changing exhibitions by regional artists and the Worin school take place; in the Yellow Barn (Gelber Stall), an exhibition on laundry washing in earlier times.
