About the museum
The Freiwillige Feuerwehr Fischamend-Dorf (volunteer fire brigade) was founded in 1888. Its present fire station was built in 1928 to designs by the architects Robert Kramreiter and Walter Pind; the building, with its expressionist character, is a listed monument. In front of the building, a statue commemorates Saint Florian, the patron saint of firefighters.
In 1992 the Fischamend-Dorf brigade was merged into the Fischamend-Markt fire brigade. Since 2005 the historic building has served as a fire brigade museum. The permanent exhibition tells the history of the Fischamend fire brigade through old vehicles, equipment, photographs and other memorabilia.
The museum is one of the Fischamend city museums, which are united in a joint support association. This is a member of the Museumsverbund Römerland Carnuntum; the city museums open together on museum days in summer and for the Lange Nacht der Museen (Long Night of Museums).
