About the museum
BRUSK is the art hall of Musea Brugge, a contemporary building in the medieval city centre next to the Groeninge Museum. Each year Musea Brugge programmes exhibitions and cultural events of international appeal there. The programme often starts from the museum’s own collection, supplemented with highlights and loans from other museums, and connects old and contemporary art with current themes. Other art forms such as dance, theatre and music also have a place there.
The ground floor is an open space that you can enter free of charge. You enter the Scala, the central staircase hall with the monumental fresco The Whispering Walls Rêve (2026) by Laure Prouvost. On one side is the Forum with reception, the museum shop and children’s studios; on the other side is the Aula for lectures and events. On the first floor are two monumental exhibition rooms, 13.5 metres high, lit by north light like an artist’s studio.
Behind the public spaces lies a wing that is not open to visitors: restoration studios, research rooms and storage for the paintings and works on paper of Musea Brugge. The building is sustainably constructed, with solar panels on the roofs and a ground heat exchange field for heating and cooling. During the renovation of the Groeninge Museum, the collection’s masterpieces will temporarily find a place in BRUSK.
