Diamantmuseum Brugge

Museum about the history of the diamond and the diamond industry, with a diamond-cutting demonstration every day at 12:15.

Opening hoursAdmission €15

About the museum

The Diamantmuseum Brugge opened on 19 June 1999 and was then expanded in several phases. In 2005 the Brazilian collection and exhibitions on synthetic and industrial diamonds were added.

Research in the Bruges city archives, together with local historian Ludo Vandamme, showed that diamonds were already being traded in Bruges long before Antwerp and Amsterdam became known for them; some diamond cutters active there in the fourteenth century can even be identified by name.

The museum aims to preserve documents and tools from the diamond industry in Belgium, particularly in Bruges and West Flanders, and in the world, for the future; to present the collection to the public in an innovative way; and to carry out educational work with schools and universities, so that future generations understand the role and importance of the diamond sector.
