About the museum
The museum in the Diest beguinage tells the story of the founders of the psychiatric centre Sint-Annendael. The Grey Sisters were active in Diest for more than 650 years. The vzw (non-profit association) Sint-Annendael, with its project Te Gek?!, tries to bring psychological problems out of the realm of taboo.
Behind the museum, the local history society Arnoldus IV and the association Com’t in Mynen Hof set up a beguine house. There you can see how the beguines of the Diest beguinage lived in the 19th century. A double toilet, where two people could sit facing each other, is one of the most striking details.
The museum is part of the offer of the city of Diest and is free to visit. In summer it is open every Sunday afternoon; during the rest of the year it is open on the first Sunday of the month, when the Diest museums each put one museum in the spotlight with activities or guided tours.
