About the museum
Streekmuseum De Reinvoart is located in Loksbergen, a part of Halen, and is housed in a long-gable farmhouse from the end of the nineteenth century. The museum was founded in 1986 and is run by volunteers. It shows how people in the Hageland lived, worked and ate around 1900.
In the rooms of the farmhouse an inn has been set up where you can still taste an authentic herbal genever. There is also a school room, a clog-making workshop, a dining room and a bedroom to see. Household items, farm tools and everyday objects complete the picture, such as a bicycle with wooden rims, a Leuven stove and a spinning wheel. Regional costume is also featured, including the lace headscarves that women wore.
The museum also pays attention to well-known people from the region. For example, there is information about the priest-poet August Cuppens, who worked in Loksbergen until 1924 and wrote the song “Liefde gaf U duizend namen”, and about the pre-war Radio Loksbergen. The museum is also a good starting point for walks through sunken lanes, orchards and vineyards.
